1

Is therapy for me?

In my experience, just about anyone can benefit from therapy. While we explore your initial concerns and develop tools for managing those situation we will also be developing insight about you, your life, and your relationships that can be applicable no matter what comes your way.

2

What is therapy with you like?

My therapeutic style is collaborative, active, and strength-based. My work is informed by research, advanced certifications, and ongoing learning.  I like to work with people who are eager to make changes in their lives, relationships, or careers.

Our time together is collaborative. We’ll explore how you move through your world, relationships, and challenges curiously and with compassion. Typically we will spend the first few weeks getting to know each other. I will ask a lot of questions and take a lot of notes. Other times, a crisis is at the forefront and we will focus on developing tools and getting you to a grounded place.

Therapy is a confidential space, so I hope that you will speak freely about your concerns. Humor, honesty, big feelings, and real talk are all welcome here... whatever it takes to help you understand events and patterns so that you can approach your situation in a new way or with a new sense of ease.

I am not sure about online therapy. Do you provide in-person sessions?

My practice is 100% online.  I have found online sessions to be just as effective as in-person therapy while allowing for a flexibility, convenience, and level of privacy not offered by in-person therapy.  And because I work online I am able to offer services in California, Virginia, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Oregon, and Washington; options for scheduling are more plentiful given that we don't have to dedicate time to travel (or parking!); and clients often report feeling more comfortable because they are in their own environment surrounded by the things that help them feel safe and grounded.

4

Which states can you see clients in?

I'm licensed in seven states: California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and Virginia. What matters is where you're physically sitting during our session, not where you live or where your insurance is based, so if you travel between any of those we can usually keep meeting without a break. Each of those pages has the licensing details and what my hours look like in your time zone.

5

How do I get started?

A free 20-minute consultation call. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, how I work, and whether it feels like a good fit. There's no pressure and no obligation on either side. If it seems like a match, we'll find a regular weekly time. If it doesn't, I'll do my best to point you toward someone who's a better one. Making the call is usually the hardest part.

6

How do I know whether I want therapy or coaching?

They're different kinds of work with different purposes. Therapy tends to look at what's underneath: the patterns, the history, the things that are hard to move on your own. Coaching starts from where you are and focuses forward, on clarity, momentum, and follow-through. Plenty of people aren't sure which they want, and that's fine. Bring it to the consultation call and we'll figure it out together. You can also read more about how I approach coaching and The Coaching Line, my message-based option.
